BY JEFFREY LUTZ, The Wichita Eagle-
Injury had already set in for the Wingnuts by the time Beau Torbert stepped to the plate in the eighth inning Monday night.
Three pitches into the at-bat, Torbert provided the insult.
Needing a home run to complete the cycle, Torbert shot a 2-0 Blake Gailen fastball well over the wall in center field, capping Sioux Falls' 13-1 win at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Torbert's eighth-inning plate appearance was the only drama in the first game of Wichita's seven-game homestand. The Canaries led 2-0 after two innings and virtually put it away with four runs in the fourth.
"I knew what I needed," Torbert said. "I was looking for a good pitch and I was probably going to put a little harder swing on it. That worked out -- I got a good pitch to hit."
