WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 13-8 to the Lincoln Saltdogs in 10 innings at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Sunday evening.
Trailing 8-4 in the ninth, the Saltdogs rallied for four runs to tie the game before scoring five times in the 10th to take the lead.
RBIs from Juan Richardson and Albenis Machado helped narrow the Wingnuts' lead in the ninth. With first and second and two out, and the Saltdogs down to their final strike, Rafael Alvarez singled up the middle off of Justin Dowdy to tie the game at 8-8.
Lincoln took the lead in the 10th on an RBI single by Shawn McGill. Machado hit a two-run double to extend the lead, while Brandon Jones and Alvarez also contributed RBIs.
The loss overshadowed another great effort by Gabe Medina who took a no-decision. Medina worked seven strong innings, allowing two earned runs on just five hits. Medina struck out four and walked none.
With second and third and two outs in the fourth, and leading 1-0, Lincoln intentionally walked Steve Pearson to load the bases. Jeff Christy drew an unintentional walk to force in the tying run. Tony Mansolino followed with a two-run single up the middle to put the Wingnuts in front 3-1.
Back-to-back one-out doubles by Argelis Nunez and Juan Richardson in the seventh cut the Wingnuts' lead to 3-2, but Gabe Medina induced a popout off the bat of Shawn McGill. Tony Mansolino then threw to second to double off Richardson and end the Saltdogs' rally.
Wichita scored three more times in the bottom of the seventh, led by an RBI single from Mario Delgado off of left-hander Adam Daniels to make it 4-2. A bases loaded walk to Steve Pearson forced in the Wingnuts' fifth run. Jeff Christy was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Wingnuts a 6-2 lead.
Lincoln scored two more in the eighth before the Wingnuts added two in their half, including Delgado's second RBI single of the game against a left-handed pitcher.
