WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 6-3 to the Sioux Falls Pheasants at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Thursday night.
With two outs in the top of the ninth, Hunter Jobes hit a three-run double to left field that broke open the game at 6-1.
The Wingnuts scratched across two runs in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double from Mario Delgado and an error committed by shortstop Tim Hutting, but could not get any closer.
Trevor Lawhorn led off the top of the third with a single to shallow center and was sacrificed to second by Will Richards. Gus Milner singled on a ground ball up the middle to score Lawhorn and give the Pheasants an early 1-0 lead.
Beau Torbert hit a two-run home run over the left-center field fence in the fourth inning to make it 3-0. It was Torbert's 10th career home run against the Wingnuts.
Chris Colton hit a long solo home run to left-center in the sixth to get Wichita on the board.
Adam Cowart battled through seven innings in the loss, allowing three runs on 10 hits. Chris Salberg worked out of trouble all night to earn the win, giving up one run in six innings. Brandon Rapoza earned the save pitching both the eighth and ninth. The Wingnuts left 12 runners on base in the loss.
The Wingnuts hit the road for a six-game road trip, beginning Sioux City tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Gabe Medina goes up against left-hander David Welch.
