WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts signed former Wichita State University outfielder Josh Workman on Friday.
Workman played three seasons for the Shockers from 2006-08, hitting a combined .308 with 12 home runs and 102 RBI in 187 games played. Workman also went 63 for 74 (85%) in stolen base attempts.
Following his senior season, Workman was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 38th round and hit .291 over his first two professional seasons with a .384 on-base percentage. Workman hit .297 last season in the pitcher-friendly Florida State League in 55 games.
The 24-year old outfielder opened the 2010 back in Lakeland before being signed as a free agent this morning. Workman will lead off tonight and play left field in the Wingnuts' series opener at Sioux City.
Workman becomes the sixth former Shocker to play for the Wingnuts, joining Derek Schermerhorn, Kevin Hooper, Nick Blasi, Joe Muich, and Ronnie Morales.
The Wingnuts open a three-game series tonight at Sioux City at 7:05 p.m. Wichita returns home Friday, June 18th when they play a 5:05 p.m. double header against the Explorers. For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS.
