WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts shutout the Sioux City Explorers 8-0 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Saturday night.
Sean Teague earned his first career win as a starting pitcher while Mario Delgado drove in four with a home run and a double to lead the offense.
Teague pitched six scoreless innings, striking out three and walking three. Teague allowed just one runner past second base during his start, and improved to 1-1. Teague has allowed one run in 11.0 IP in two starts with the Wingnuts.
Leading 1-0 in the third, Delgado crushed a two-run home run that clipped the batter's eye in dead center field to open a 3-0 advantage.
Ryan Patterson extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run single to center field with the bases loaded. Patterson finished the night 3 for 5 and scored two runs.
The Wingnuts took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly to left by Chad Rothford. Rothford collected two hits in the game and is 3 for 10 in three games with the Wingnuts.
Dustin Pease pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Teague. Justin Dowdy worked a scoreless ninth to finish the shutout. David Trahan took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, in four innings. Jeff Christy's hitting streak came to and end at 15 games in which he was 24 for 48 (.500)
