WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (56-40) lost 4-2 to the El Paso Diablos (45-50) at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Wednesday night.
El Paso scored three times in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead. Jermy Acey hit a two-run double that scored Reid Fronk and Mitch Einertson. Zane Chavez added an RBI single later in the inning.
El Paso starter Luis Chirinos earned the win, allowing one earned run on three hits in seven innings. Chirinos walked three and struck out three.
Wichita rallied for a run in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out, RBI single from Steve Carrillo. The Wingnuts had the tying runs on base before Justin Harper closed out the game to earn the save.
Einertson hit a two-out solo home run in the top of the first to give El Paso a 1-0 lead. Jake Kahaulelio responded for the Wingnuts in the bottom half with a solo shot to left.
Derek Blacksher started for the Wingnuts and took the loss. Blacksher allowed four earned runs on nine hits in six innings. Blacksher walked three and struck out five.
Nick Walters and Jared Simon each tossed a scoreless inning. Walters and Simon also made their 55th appearances of the season, setting a new American Association record.
