WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (57-40) defeated the El Paso Diablos (45-51) 5-1 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Thursday night.
Ryan Hinson delivered eight terrific innings to earn the win, allowing one earned run on six hits. Hinson walked three and struck out six.
The Wingnuts scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to break a scoreless tie. With two outs and no one on base, a single from Jake Kahaulelio was followed by back-to-back walks to John Rodriguez and Greg Porter. With David Peralta at the plate, a passed ball scored Kahaulelio with the game's first run. Peralta made it 3-0 with a two-run double.
A fielder's choice and an error in the bottom of the seventh helped the Wingnuts take a 4-1 lead. Kahaulelio added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to score Wichita's final run.
James Hoyt closed out the game with a scoreless top of the ninth.
David Casillas started for El Paso and took the loss, allowing three earned runs on three hits in six innings. Casillas walked three and struck out four.
The Wingnuts close out their 2012 regular season home schedule 32-19.
The Wingnuts conclude their regular season schedule this Saturday in St. Paul with a three-game series at Midway Stadium againts the Saints. The Wingnuts begin postseason play next Wednesday night against either the Laredo Lemurs or the Grand Prairie AirHogs.
