WICHITA, KS- Wichita Wingnuts' right-handed pitcher Josh Lowey has been named to Baseball America's 2012 Independent League All-Star Team.

Lowey set an American Association record with 15 wins, while finishing 10th in both ERA (3.57) and strikeouts (96).  The Fort Walton Beach, FL native was voted the American Association's Pitcher of the Year by the league managers and media representatives.  Lowey was also named the Frontier League's Pitcher of the Year in 2011 as a member of the River City Rascals.

In the opener of a double header on August 27th, Lowey pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout versus the El Paso Diablos that clinched the Wingnuts' third division title in the last four years.  The game also marked Lowey's record-setting 15th win of the season.  Lowey held opponents to three or fewer earned runs in 14 of his 20 starts, and worked at least six innings in 15 of them.  On July 1st versus Winnipeg, Lowey won a 19th consecutive decision dating back to his 2011 campaign with River City.

Through 2012, Lowey is 44-13 (.772) with a 3.28 ERA over five professional seasons.  The 27-year-old is 5-1 in 10 career playoff starts, and has pitched in his league's championship series each of the last four years.

The announcement comes just days after Wingnuts' right-hander James Hoyt and outfielder David Peralta were named to Baseball America's Independent Leagues Top-20 Prospects list.
