WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts learned Tuesday that right-handed pitcher James Hoyt has been purchased by the Atlanta Braves' organization.

Hoyt posted a 2.61 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 10.1 innings over 11 appearances for the Wingnuts in 2012.  The Boise, ID native also had stints with the Mexican League's Tabasco Olmecas and the North American League's Edinburg RoadRunners.  Between the three clubs, Hoyt pitched to an impressive 1.76 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 41.0 innings.  Hoyt was acquired from Edinburg in June via trade, and will be pitching for a Major League affiliate for the first time in his career.

"James Hoyt has worked very hard to reach this point in his career, and is well-deserving of the opporunity," said Wingnuts' manager Kevin Hooper.  "Our coaching staff, myself, and the rest of the organization wishes him nothing but the best in the future."

Last month, Hoyt ranked ninth on Baseball America's Independent Leagues Top Prospects list.  The 26-year-old righty pitched collegiately at Palomar College and Centenary College of Louisiana before starting his professional career in 2011.  The 6-foot-6, 215-pound Hoyt has averaged 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings over his first two pro seasons.

Hoyt is the fifth Wingnut sold to a Major League organization during the 2012 calendar year, and the 15th in team history.
