WICHITA, KS- The awards keep coming for Wingnuts' left fielder Greg Porter who was named the American Association's "Star of Stars" by PA-Sports Ticker on Thursday.
The "Star of Stars" is awarded annually to the player in each professional minor league who has had the best statistical season. PA-Sports Ticker compiles all statistical packages for the minor leagues during the year. The announcement comes one day after Porter was named the 2009 Independent Player of the Year by Baseball America.
Porter nearly won the league's triple crown, ranking first in batting average (.372), tying for first in home runs (21), and finishing second in RBIs (86). Porter also ranked first in hits (140), on-base percentage (.453), slugging percentage (.617), and extra-base hits (48).
