Singleton Pitches Wingnuts to First Win

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Sioux Falls Pheasants 2-1 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday night.

Wingnuts' starter Nick Singleton fired six shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out three to earn his first win of the year.

The Wingnuts broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth.  Josh Horn and Eric Williams opened the inning with groundball singles.  With one out, Mario Delgado singled down the left field line to score Horn.  Two batter later, and with two away, Steve Pearson singled on a line drive to center off the body of Reggie Abercrombie to give the Wingnuts a 2-0 lead.

Matt Petty retired Joe Anthonsen on a foul popup in the seventh to strand the tying runs on base.
Cephas Howard limited damage in the eighth.  After allowing an RBI single to Beau Torbert that cut the Wingnuts' lead in half, the right-hander picked Torbert off in a rundown to secure the first out of the inning.  Howard retired the next two hitters to keep Wichita in front.

Justin Dowdy pitched a perfect ninth, including two strikeouts, to finish off the win and earn his first save of the season.

The Wingnuts and Pheasants continue their series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.  RHP Adam Cowart opposes LHP Chris Salberg.  For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS.
