Saints Blank Wingnuts in First Half Finale

ST. PAUL, MN- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 9-0 to the St. Paul Saints at Midway Stadium on Sunday night.

The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  Brandon Carter drew a one-out walk against Gabe Medina.  Ole Sheldon singled to center, moving Carter to second.  Carter scored on Jason Cooper's double down the right field line.  Brent Krause grounded a single up the middle to plate both Sheldon and Cooper.

With two outs and no one on, Carter doubled down the right field line in the bottom of the second.  Sheldon followed with an RBI single to left to make it 4-0 St. Paul

Carter hit his second double of the game with one out in the fourth and came home on another RBI single by Sheldon.  Jason Cooper followed with a two-run home run on a high, fly ball to right-center that opened a 7-0 Saints lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Carter and Sheldon hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning and werr driven in by Krause two batters later on a double to deep right field.

Gabe Medina allowed a season-high nine earned runs in 5.1 IP and took the loss.  Medina allowed 11 hits, walked four and struck out four.  Brandon Mathes, Dustin Pease, and Cephas Howard combined for 2.2 scoreless relief innings.

Zach Peterson threw 6.2 shutout innings before leaving in the top of the seventh with an injury.  Peterson allowed four hits, no walks, and struck out five while not allowing a runner past first base while earning the win.
