Wanna be a Wingnut?

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts, proud member of the American Association of Professional Baseball (AA), will hold tryouts for the 2008 team this Saturday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.

Registration is from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the main gate.  The cost is $50 per player and each attendee will receive an agenda for the day as well as an assigned number.  Camp begins at 11:30 a.m. and the end time will be based on the number of participants.

There is no pre-registration and all players must bring their own gear.  Water, bats and balls will be provided.  The tryouts will cover hitting, pitching, defense, running and arm strength.

Off the field, the Wingnuts will hold a Job Fair on Saturday, April 5th at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.  Interviews will be conducted for the multiple seasonal game day promotions.  Interested applicants should appear in person at the stadium entrance between 9:00 a.m. and noon.  Following the job fair, the Wingnuts will hold National Anthem auditions on the field at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m.

In other news, the Wichita Wingnuts are currently battling the Savannah Sand Gnats in the second round of CNBC.com’s best minor league baseball logo contest.

The contest, which will run through March 31, features 64 teams in a single-elimination bracket decided by online voting.  The Wingnuts entered the tournament as a number 12 seed and defeated the number five seed Inland Empire 66 convincingly in the first round.  The Wingnuts will have their hands full today versus the number four seed Savannah.  Fans can place their votes here: http://www.cnbc.com/id/23706466.

Wichita’s newest baseball team will begin their inaugural season of play on May 7th, when they host the Sioux City Explorers for a three-game set at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.  The Wichita Thunder, meanwhile, returns to action on Friday when they travel to Oklahoma City for a 7:35 p.m. face-off with the Blazers.
