Wingnuts sweep Explorers

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts swept a doubleheader today over the Sioux City Explorers, winning both games in eight innings.

Former Wichita State star Derek Schermerhorn started the rally in each game - reaching base via a single and a hit by pitch - and scored the winning run each time.

The Wingnuts, now a perfect 3-0, won the first game 4-3, with the game-winning hit coming on a double by Brenan Herrera.  Pitcher Dan Caldwell earned the victory.

In the second game it was a sacrifice fly by Blake Gailen that was the difference, making a winner out of Byron Embry, who pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief.  The final score of game two was 8-7.  A record crowd of 6,779 fans witnessed the sweep.

The Wingnuts now hit the road for a series in Sioux City which starts tomorrow.  The Wingnuts return home on Monday, May 19th to host the defending AA Champion Fort Worth Cats.
