WICHITA, KS - Thursday night's game between the Wichita Wingnuts and the Lincoln Saltdogs has been postponed due to inclement weather.
Four innings were completed, with Wichita taking a 4-2 lead. However, play stopped prior to the start of the fifth inning due to lightning, heavy rains, and a tornado warning. Both teams waited close to three hours for a final decision before umpire crew chief Lance Schoenwald made the postponement official.
Wichita was led offensively by Kevin Hooper, who had two hits, and Brenan Herrera, who hit a two-run homerun in the third. All four of Wichita's runs were scored with two outs. Unfortunately for the Wingnuts, since at least four and a half innings were not completed, the game and all of its statistics are voided.
No word has been made as to whether or not the two teams will make up the game. Wichita and Lincoln do not have any scheduled head-to-head games left in the first half. St. Paul had the night off, so the Wingnuts will stay two and a half games out of first at the start of tomorrow's series.
First pitch Friday night is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
