SIOUX FALLS, SD - Wednesday night the Wichita Wingnuts moved back within 2.5 games of first place with a 5-1 win over the division-leading Sioux Falls Canaries. Gustavo Mata earned his third win of the year, allowing one earned run in eight strong innings. Steve Pearson led the offense hitting two doubles and driving in two runs.
Wichita jumped on the board early, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Brenan Herrera had an RBI double, while Michael Thompson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Steve Pearson delivered a bases-loaded two-run double in the top of the sixth to break the game open at 4-1.
Wichita has one more game head-to-head with Sioux Falls, as the Wingnuts will try for the series split Thursday evening with Brad Davis on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
