WICHITA, KS- The Wingnuts dropped a tough 4-3 decision to the El Paso Diablos, but it was not a total loss as a record crowd of 8,225 fans packed Lawrence Dumont Stadium tonight.
Without an available starter, reliever Doug Hurn got the nod and took a 1-0 lead into the sixth. The bullpen, however; allowed three runs in the inning and one more in the eighth for the difference. Wichita put up single runs in the eighth and then in the ninth on a solo home run by Chris Colton.
The crowd was the largest at L-D Stadium since a 1998 NBC game between the El Dorado Broncos and the Nevada Griffons. Wichita and El Paso will close out their series on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Following the game two teams from the Vintage Baseball League will play a game using rules from the 1860's. For tickets call the Wingnuts at (316) 264-4625.
