Wingnuts Win, Finish First Half 26-21

WICHITA, KS - Saturday night the Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Sioux City Explorers by a final score of 9-7 at Lewis and Clark Park.  The Wingnuts faced deficits of 4-0 and 5-1, but utilized a four-run sixth inning to take their first lead.

Steve Pearson hit a two-run double to tie the game at five, while Jose Amado followed with an RBI single to put Wichita on top 6-5.  After the X's tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, Wichita regained the lead on Michael Thompson's three-run homerun in the top of the seventh.

Eight of Wichita's nine starters had at least one base hit, while six of the nine had at least two.  Brenan Herrera went 4-4 with a walk and two runs scored.

Doug Hurn retired all four batters to face him to earn his fourth win.  Byron Embry picked up his 10th save, holding the lead in the bottom of the ninth.

With the Saints' loss earlier in the afternoon, the Wingnuts clinched sole possession of second place in the North Division's first half with a record of 26-21.

The second half begins Tuesday July 1st in Pensacola, FL when the Wingnuts open their only series of the year against the Pelicans.
