Comeback Falls Short

WICHITA, KS - Saturday night the Wichita Wingnuts fell 8-7 to the Fort Worth Cats. Fort was lead offensively by three homeruns, including Ed Montague's second in as many nights.

Wichita jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but Jake Gautreau's three-run homerun in the bottom half of of Justin Young tied the game.  Fort Worth took their first lead in an errant pickoff throw in the bottom of the third and never trailed again.

Trailing by four late, the Wingnuts chipped away. Brenan Herrera's RBI double lead a two-run top of the seventh to get Wichita within two.  Kevin Hooper hit an RBI groundout in the eighth to cut the deficit to one, but Cats' closer Jon Hunton pitched a perfect ninth to earn the save.

The series finale is set for Sunday night at 7:05 p.m. Wichita sends Leonard Landeros to the mound against the Cats' Joel Kirsten.
