WICHITA, KS- The Wingnuts missed out on two golden chances in the late innings and Alex Llanos hit a two-run homer in the top of the tenth, leading the Sioux City Explorers to a 3-2 victory on Sunday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
Former Wingnut Derek Schermerhorn saved the game for the Explorers with a diving stop in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and the winning run on third. The Wingnuts had second and third with no outs in the bottom of the tenth but ran themselves out of the inning.
The Wingnuts, who hit the All-Star Break 3 1/2 games behind the Lincoln Saltdogs, will return to action on Wednesday at the St. Paul Saints. Wichita returns home next Sunday to host Sioux City at 4:05 p.m. For tickets or more information call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
