WICHITA, KS - The Wingnuts made a significant addition to their roster on Wednesday with the signing of veteran slugger Vic Davilla.
A 26th round pick by the Blue Jays in 1993, Davilla has spent more than a decade in independent baseball. Since the 2000 season, the New York, NY native has posted a .322 average in over 2,400 at bats. During that stretch he has also averaged 36 doubles, 21 homeruns, and 121 RBI per 162 games.
Davilla played most recently in the Can-Am League, where he split time with Brockton and New Jersey this past month. Davilla will be available for tonight's series opener against St. Paul, and will help ease the loss of Dustan Mohr to the disabled list. To make room for Davilla, the Wingnuts released DH Jose Amado. Amado hit .238 in 28 games for the Wingnuts.
Wichita returns home Sunday at 4:05 p.m. to open a three-game series with Sioux City. For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
