WICHITA, KS - The Wingnuts dropped both ends of a double header to Sioux City on Thursday night, with the Explorers winning both games by final scores of 3-0.
In game one, Wichita got solid pitching from Blake Gailen, who made his first start since 2007. Gailen allowed three runs in six innings of work. Wichita was shut down by Paige Dumont, who fired six shutout innings before giving way to Brett Reid in the seventh. Reid pitched a perfect inning to earn his 19th save.
Richard Salazar had a strong effort in game two, also throwing six innings for a complete game. Salazar struck out four, including three in a row at one point. However, this time it was Ty Marotz who kept the Wingnuts' bats quiet. Marotz threw five shutout innings while striking out six. Cameron Cheek pitched a perfect sixth, before Reid earned his 20th save with a scoreless seventh.
The series continues tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. with the Wingnuts sending Brad Davis to the mound.
