The Wingnuts return to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium today for a three-game series. Perhaps surprisingly, the Santa Barbara Foresters won't be their opponent.
After spending the last 14 days and 13 games away from home during the National Baseball Congress World Series, Wichita will finish the season with a six-game homestand.
The road trip didn't go as well as planned, as the Wingnuts were 5-7 before Saturday's game against St. Paul, but they return home with a chance to sneak into the American Association postseason.
The seemingly endless road trip took as much of a mental toll as it did a physical one.
"It's just the grind," manager Kash Beauchamp said. "It's not horrible -- we stay in good hotels and everything. It's good, it's just that 14 days on the road is tough. I think the longest I've been on the road was 10 days, at least up until now."
