WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts announced their exhibition schedule today, headlined by a match against Newman University on Tuesday, May 5th.
The contest versus Newman University begins at 7:05 p.m. at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. All seats will be considered General Admission, and can be purchased for just $7.00. It will be the first time this season that the Wingnuts take the field in uniform under new manager Kevin Hooper. The Wingnuts are coming off of a 45-50 record in their inaugural season, which included a second place finish in the first half of 2008.
The Newman University Jets compete in the Heartland Conference at the NCAA Division-II level. Newman hitters will be allowed to use aluminum bats, while Newman pitchers will use NCAA-sanctioned baseballs. The Wingnuts will use wood bats and standard American Association balls.
Later in the week, the Wingnuts travel south for two more exhibition games. On Friday, May 8th, the Wingnuts head to LaGrave Field to play the Fort Worth Cats. The following night, Wichita heads across the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area to QuikTrip Park, where the Wingnuts will battle the Southern Division champion Grand Prairie AirHogs. Both games commence at 7:05 p.m.
The Wingnuts will hold their second annual media day on Monday, May 4th at 1:30 p.m. at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. All Wingnuts players, as well as manager Kevin Hooper will be available for interviews and photographs. All print, radio, and television media are invited. Also on May 4th, Wichita Wingnuts tickets will officially go on sale to the public. Individual ticket prices range from $6.00-$12.00, with discounts available for seniors, military, and youth 12 and under. Children ages two and under can receive free admission.
