Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts dropped their season opener 5-3 on Thursday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium to the Lincoln Saltdogs.
Lincoln led 2-0 before the Wingnuts tied it with a pair of runs in the third thanks to a two-run double by Brenan Herrera. Lincoln took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth. Both starters lasted only four innings each, turning the game into a bullpen battle.
Lincoln went up 5-2 with a run in the seventh thanks to a walk and two stolen bases by Josh Burrus. Wichita scored a run in the bottom of the seventh but left two runners on and a total of 10 for the game. Jim Paduch got the win in relief while Carlos Guevara notched the save. Wichita starter Gabe Medina suffered the loss.
The two teams will battle again on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and admission is free with a Riverfest Button. For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
