Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts extended their winning streak to four with a 5-3 win over the St. Paul Saints on Tuesday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
Wichita took a 1-0 lead in the third on a two-out single by Brenan Herrera. The 'Nuts extended the lead to 3-0 in the fourth when St. Paul right fielder Daron Roberts dropped an inning-ending pop up by Stephen Pearson two score a pair. St. Paul made it 3-1 in the fifth, then cut the lead to 3-2 in the eighth when Dustan Mohr dove for and missed a ball that rolled to the wall for an inside-the-park home run by Brent Krause. Mohr left the game injured.
The Wingnuts extended the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth on RBI singles by Michael Thompson and Joe Muich. St. Paul added a run on an error in the ninth before closer Amad Stephens closed the door for his fourth save of the season. Richard Salazar (2-0) picked up the win for Wichita.
Wichita now leads St. Paul by three games in the Northern Division with a record of 9-2. The Wingnuts will face St. Paul's Tanner Scheppers tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Scheppers was picked 48th in the MLB draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates last season and is expected to be a top pick in the June MLB Draft.
