Wichita, KS- Kelly Hunt hit a pair of two-run homers as the Wingnuts extended their winning streak to five in a row, pounding the St. Paul Saints 11-2 on Wednesday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
With several MLB scouts in attendance to watch St. Paul starter Tanner Scheppers, the Wingnuts first three batters reached base, as the 'Nuts went up 2-0. Scheppers is expected to be a first round pick in the June MLB Draft. Wichita added three more off Scheppers in the third, thanks to Hunt's first home run of the game, an opposite field shot.
St. Paul cut the lead to 5-2 before Wichita exploded for six runs in the eighth, sending 10 batters to the plate. Every Wingnut player had at least one hit and everyone but Stephen Pearson scored a run. The Wingnuts first five hitters each had two hits. Starter Will Savage recorded his first win of the season, going 6 1/3 innings.
Wichita now leads St. Paul by four games in the Northern Division with a record of 10-2. The Wingnuts will close out their series with St. Paul tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. and Derek Blacksher will get the start. For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
