Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts completed their second straight sweep and extended their winning-streak to six games, knocking off the St. Paul Saints 5-2 on Thursday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in front of 3,632 fans.
Wichita jumped on the board early again, scoring three runs in the second. Michael Thompson knocked in the first run before Josh Horn singled home two more with a two-out single. Wichita added a run in the third on an RBI single from Stephen Pearson, who finished the night 2-4. St. Paul cut the lead to 4-2 on a two-run double by Ole Sheldon in the sixth, before the 'Nuts added a run in the bottom of the inning. Nick Blasi singled home the last run, again with two outs.
Derek Blacksher picked up the win, going six innings. Justin Young, Adam Cowart and Amad Stephens each chipped in a scoreless inning of relief. Josh Horn and Kelly Hunt each went 3-4 for the Wingnuts, who now lead St. Paul by five games in the Northern Division with a record of 11-2. Wichita outscored St. Paul 21-7 and never trailed in the three-game series.
The Wingnuts now hit the road for six games, starting tomorrow night at the Fort Worth Cats. Wichita will return home next Friday to host the Lincoln Saltdogs in a three-game set. For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
