Saints quiet Wingnuts, sellout crowd

Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts had trouble scoring runs, despite numerous chances, falling 7-1 to the St. Paul Saints in front of a sellout crowd of 6,162 fans on Friday night at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.

St. Paul took a quick lead on a first inning solo home run by Todd Self.  The Saints went up 2-0 on a sacrifice fly by Self in the third.  In the fifth, a two-out error by Brenan Herrera led to a third run, thanks to a two-out single by Ole Sheldon.

Wichita left runners on base in the second, third and fourth before cutting the lead to 3-1 on an RBI double by Kelly Hunt in the bottom of the inning.  Unfortunately Wichita left the bases loaded.  St. Paul blew the game open with three runs in the ninth to make a winner out of starter Mitch Wylie.  Todd Self finished the night with two hits a stolen base, three RBI and three runs for the Saints.  Greg Porter reached base in all four at bats for the Wingnuts, with a single and three walks.  The Wingnuts left 10 runners on base in the game.

The Wingnuts now lead St. Paul by three games in the Northern Division with game two of the series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.  Derek Blacksher will get the start for Wichita, going up against Brandon Kintzler.  For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
