Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts bullpen struggled in the eighth inning as the Sioux Falls Canaries beat Wichita 7-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
Wichita fought back from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to tie the game in the seventh on an RBI single by Josh Horn, who finished the game 3-3 with a walk and two RBI. In the eighth Tyler Rhoden gave up a single and two walks, before being pulled for Justin Young. Young walked the first three batters he faced and allowed four runners to score before finally retiring the side.
Wichita pulled to within 7-5 in the bottom of the inning and had two men on with one out, but were unable to get the equalizer. Kris Regas, who recorded the final two outs in the eighth, retired the Wingnuts in order in the ninth to record his 12th save of the season. Sioux Falls took two out of three games in the series, the first series Wichita has lost at home this season.
Wichita returns to action on Friday at the St. Paul Saints for the start of a seven-game road trip. The Wingnuts will return home next Friday to host St. Paul. For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
