WICHITA, KS- Wichita Wingnuts' left fielder Greg Porter has been named the American Association Batter of the Week for June 15th-21st.
It is the second time this month that the Wingnuts' slugger has received Batter of the Week honors. Porter went 10 for 19 (.526) with two home runs, five RBIs, and five runs scored in six games last week.
On Tuesday night, the West Point, NY native hit a game-ending double in the bottom of the seventh in a 2-1 win versus Sioux Falls. Sunday afternoon at St. Paul, Porter cracked two home runs in the Wingnuts 11-10 victory over the Saints.
Porter is currently on an 11-game hitting streak in which he is 17-34 (.500) and is two games shy of tying Kevin Hooper's club record hitting streak of 13 straight games. In his last 18 games, Porter is 33 for 65 (.508) with 18 runs scored, 14 extra-base hits, 11 RBI , and 18 walks. Entering tonight's action, Porter is leading the league in hitting at .373.
The Wingnuts open a four-game series against the Sioux City Explorers tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Lewis and Clark Park. The Wingnuts have a 3.0 game lead over Sioux City with 13 games left in the first half. Adam Cowart starts for the Wingnuts and will be opposed by right-hander Steve Spurgeon.
