Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts blew out the St. Paul Saints 7-0 on Saturday Night at Lawrence Dumont Stadium, dropping their magic number to just one game to clinch the Northern Division first half title.
After stranding men in scoring position in three of the first four innings, Wichita exploded in the fifth sending ten men to the plate. With Michael Thompson on first and one out, the next six Wingnuts batters reached base via hits. Greg Porter, who extended his hitting-streak to 17 games with a first inning single, knocked in the first run with a bases loaded single. Dustan Mohr followed with a bases-clearing double and was knocked in by Kelly Hunt. Joe Muich doubled in Hunt for the final run of the inning. The Wingnuts added a run in the seventh on another single by Porter.
The Wingnuts, who have received tremendous starting ptching efforts during their current seven-game winning streak, got another phenomenal one tonight from Adam Cowart. Cowart tossed a 91-pitch complete game shutout, allowing just three hits, two walks and struck out three.
Wichita, who now has a seven-and-a-half game lead over St. Paul with seven games remaining in the first half, can clinch the North Division with a win over the Saints on Sunday.
