Wingnuts fall to Saints in late innings

Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts bullpen spoiled another great start by Will Savage, allowing five runs over the last two innings, in a 7-5 loss to the St. Paul Saints on Thursday night at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.

The real fireworks occurred before the game even started, as Wingnuts manager Kevin Hooper continued his argument with the umpire crew from last night, and was ejected.  Hooper was angry that Wingnuts slugger Dustan Mohr was ejected last night and subsequently suspended for tonight's game.

When the game started, Savage and St. Paul starter Mitch Wylie put on a pitchers' duel for six innings - a game that was tied at 1-1.  After St. Paul went ahead 2-1 in the seventh, the Wingnuts were gifted two runs on a two-out wild pitch by Michael Bille to go up 3-2.  St. Paul went up 5-3 in the eighth on a three-run home run by Jason Cooper, but Wichita quickly tied it in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out double by Michael Thompson.

In the ninth, St. Paul rallied for two runs with two outs to go up 7-5, with Cooper picking up another RBI.  The Wingnuts left two men on base in the ninth - the story of the night - as Wichita stranded 11 men on base.  Bille earned the win, while Justin Young suffered the loss for Wichita.  The Wingnuts have struggled early in the second half, falling to a record of 1-3.

The Wingnuts now head to Shreveport where they will start a three-game set with the Captains on Friday.  The Wingnuts will return home on Monday to host the Sioux Falls Canaries at 7:05 p.m.  For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
