Wingnuts Edged by Captains

SHREVEPORT, LA- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 3-2 to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains at Fair Grounds Field on Saturday night.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the second, Joe Muich singled to leadoff the inning and was followed by a double down the left field line from Steve Pearson.  Two batters later Brenan Herrera drove in Muich with an RBI groundout.  Josh Horn then came up and laid down a two-out bunt single that scored Pearson to tie the game.

The Captains moved back in front on Dan Williams' RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, finishing the scoring for the night.

Gabe Medina kept the Wingnuts in the game, allowing three runs in six innings.  Medina walked one and struck out five.  The loss snapped Medina's five-game winning streak.  Richard Salazar pitched two scoreless innings of relief to keep the Wingnuts within one run.  Josh Horn finished with three hits.  The loss was the fifth straight for Wichita, marking their first five-game losing streak in team history.

The Wingnuts return home on Monday, opening a four-game series with the Sioux Falls Canaries at 7:05 p.m.  Adam Cowart will be on the mound, opposed by Sioux Falls' Travis Kane.  The Wingnuts host McDonald's Buy-In Night, as well as their weekly Military Monday's promotion, courtesy of Kissin' Country and B98 FM.  For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-4625.
