Two Out Magic Leads to Win Over Canaries

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Sioux Falls Canaries 9-7 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Wingnuts jumped in front in the bottom of the second.  After Canaries' starter Jino Gonzalez retired the first two hitters, Patrick Brooks singled and Brenan Herrera walked.  Josh Horn followed with an RBI single to center field to put the Wingnuts on the board.  Nick Blasi and Dustan Mohr followed with RBI singles and then executed a double steal.  Kelly Hunt followed with a single through the left side to open a 5-0 advantage.

Sioux Falls scored a run in the top of the third on an RBI double down the left field line from Cody Haerther.

Heavy rains began falling while the Wingnuts were at bat in the bottom of the fourth, leading to a one-hour and 23-minute rain delay.

Leading 6-3 into the bottom of the eighth, the Wingnuts plated three more runs, including RBIs from Michael Thompson, Brenan Herrera, and Josh Horn.

Will Savage earned the win, allowing two runs in five innings of work.  Joe D'Alessandro earned his third save of the season, retiring the final batter of the game.

The Wingnuts continue their series against the Canaries tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.  All-Star Derek Blacksher matches up against right-hander Ben Moore.  For tickets, contact the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-4625.
