LINCOLN, NE- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 4-2 to the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park on Saturday night.
In the top of the third, Greg Porter singled through the left side with two outs. Kelly Hunt came up next and doubled to right-center field to drive in Porter and give the Wingnuts a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Pichi Balet singled to center field to tie the game. Two batters later, Steve Alexander dropped a single into center field to score Balet as the go-ahead run.
The Saltdogs extended their lead in the seventh. With the bases loaded and two outs, Balet singled into short left against Richard Salazar to score two more runs and make it 4-1 Lincoln.
Adam Cowart started for the Wingnuts, allowing four runs in 6.2 IP while suffering his third loss of the season.
Steve Pearson doubled home a run in the top of the eighth to bring the Wingnuts back within two runs, but Wichita went down in order against closer Chris Thompson in the ninth inning who earned the save.
The Wingnuts and Saltdogs finish their series tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. Will Savage starts for Wichita against Lincoln's Zac Cline.
