Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts scored early and often and four pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout, as Wichita defeated the Sioux Falls Canaries 7-0 on Saturday night at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in front of 5,081 fans.
Wichita took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Dustan Mohr and added three more in the third inning. Josh Horn had an RBI groundout followed by a two-run home run by Nick Blasi. The Wingnuts finished their scoring in the fourth on a two-run double by Greg Porter and another RBI single by Mohr.
Wingnuts starter Brad Davis pitched five strong innings, allowing just six hits. Julio Torres, Tyler Rhoden and Joe D'Allesandro combined to allow just two hits and no runs over the final four innings. Blasi, Mohr and Michael Thompson each had two hits for the Wingnuts. Tim Hutting reached base in all five at bats for Sioux Falls, with two singles and three walks.
The Wingnuts will host Sioux Falls again on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Gabe Medina will take the mound for Wichita against Travis Kane. For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
