Wichita, KS- Greg Porter clubbed his league-leading 19th home run of the season, leading the Wingnuts to a 5-3 victory over the Sioux City Explorers on Thursday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
Porter's blast came in the third inning and put Wichita ahead 3-0, but the Explorers scratched across a run in the fourth and two in the sixth to tie things up off Wichita starter Will Savage. Wichita retook the lead 5-3, thanks to a pair of Sioux city errors in the seventh and a sacrifice fly by Nick Blasi. New catcher John Martin had a good night for the 'Nuts, reaching base twice and scoring a pair of runs.
Joe D'Allesandro earned his second victory with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, while new closer Justin Dowdy picked up his first save in a Wingnuts uniform.
Wichita hits the road for three games at the Sioux Falls Canaries this weekend before returning home on Monday to host the Licoln Saltdogs at 7:05 p.m. For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
