ST. PAUL, MN- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 5-1 to the St. Paul Saints at Midway Stadium on Thursday night.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Josh Alley drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on an infield single by Kevin Millar. After a balk allowed the runners to advance, Jason Cooper hit a slow roller up the middle that scored Alley from third.
Alley cracked a solo home run in the bottom of the third to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. Jason Cooper and Ole Sheldon hit back-to-back shots in the fourth to make it 4-0. Steve Mays hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh for the Saints' final run.
Mario Delgado doubled home Ryan Patterson for the Wingnuts' only run in the top of the eighth.
Nick Singleton allowed four earned runs in five innings while taking the loss. Joe Woerman earned the win with 5.2 shutout innings. The Wingnuts left 10 runners on base.
