WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts shutout the St. Paul Saints 5-0 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Sunday evening.
For a second straight game, the Wingnuts were powered by a big second inning. Michael Thompson and Steve Pearson singled with one out to put runners on first and second. Chris Colton doubled to the left-center field wall to score both runners and give the Wingnuts a 2-0 lead. With first and second and two out, Josh Horn capped off the inning with a long three-run home run over the left field wall to make it 5-0.
Nick Singleton and the Wingnuts pitching made the offense stand with Singleton tossing 5.2 scoreless innings for the win. The right-hander struck out three and walked two while allowing seven hits. Singleton has thrown 11.2 scoreless innings in his last two starts. Dustin Pease worked 1.1 shutout frames in relief of Singleton, including two strikeouts. Matt Petty closed out the game with two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth.
Horn's home run extended his hitting streak to nine games dating back to last year. The shutout was the first for the Wingnuts in 2010.
